On 1 December 2016, the Senate referred an inquiry into the Crimes Legislation Amendment (International Crime Cooperation and Other Measures) Bill 2016 to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 16 February 2017.

On 16 February 2017, the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 23 March 2017.
