Access to the private areas of Parliament House is controlled electronically to ensure only people with authorisation can enter.
- Unescorted access is enabled by an APH Access Card (Access Card).
- Eligibility and suitability requirements including authorisation to obtain an Access Card (also known as a ‘Pass’) are outlined in the APH Private Area Access Policy.
- Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions for more information about the use of your Access Card and suite access.
Attending committees or Senate Estimates
Please refer to the Parliamentary business page for the relevant topic and seek contact details – you could be issued a temporary witness pass.
Applying or renewing an Access Card
- Complete one of the forms below as applicable to the card type you are applying for:
- Ensure the form is signed by yourself and the applicable Authorised Officer*.
- Email the completed application form to the Security Pass Office.
Access Cards are issued by appointment.
The Security Pass Office will contact you once the application has been processed to book an appointment (this can take up to 8 weeks).
Remember to bring photographic identification with you to your appointment.
Authorised Officers*
Authorised Officers and/or Sponsors approve the issue of an Access Card:
- The applicable Authorised Officer or Sponsor is determined by the APH Private Area Access Policy.
- Authorised Officers can be nominated by the primary Authorised Officer or Sponsor to persons who are at the Executive level 2 or higher (e.g. Chief of Staff, Director).
- Authorised Officers are audited regularly, and the primary Authorised Officer or Sponsor will be responsible for validation.

- Open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:50 pm (excluding public holidays).
- Located on Ground Floor in the Marble Foyer. It is near the main front visitor pass issue desk and adjacent to the main front public entrance. View map

Lost Access Card
If your card is lost, damaged or stolen, report it immediately by either:
- Emailing securitypass@aph.gov.au
- Calling the Security Pass Office on (02) 6277 5989
- Calling (02) 6277 5999 out of hours.
