The Environment and Communications Committees cover the following portfolios: Communications and the Arts; and Environment and Energy.
The Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management (Register) Bill would establish a national framework to manage the ongoing use, handling and disposal of industrial chemicals, in order to reduce impacts on the environment and limit people's exposure to industrial chemicals. The General, Customs and Excise bills would establish a cost recovery model to implement the national framework to make, vary and revoke scheduling decisions for industrial chemicals.
The bill would amend the enabling legislation of six National Collecting Institutions (Australian National Maritime Museum, National Film and Sound Archive, National Gallery, National Library, National Museum and National Portrait Gallery) to provide them with broader investment powers than currently permitted by the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, improve efficiencies and address longstanding, but minor, administrative inconsistencies between the six Acts.
