About this inquiry

The bill would subject Commonwealth litigants to enforceable model litigant obligations. It would also establish a process for the Commonwealth Ombudsman to investigate complaints about contraventions of the obligations.

Judiciary Amendment (Commonwealth Model Litigant Obligations) Bill 2017

On 7 December 2017 the Senate referred the Judiciary Amendment (Commonwealth Model Litigant Obligations) Bill 2017 to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 8 May 2018.

The deadline for submissions to the inquiry is 28 February 2018.
