Bankruptcy Amendment (Debt Agreement Reform) Bill 2018

On 7 December 2017 the Senate referred the provisions of the Bankruptcy Amendment (Debt Agreement Reform) Bill 2017 to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 19 March 2018.

The bill was to be introduced into the House of Representatives in late 2017, but this did not occur. It is expected that the bill will be introduced when Parliament resumes in February 2018.

The committee is currently inquiring into an exposure draft of the 2018 bill, so stakeholders can review and comment on the proposed legislation prior to its introduction to Parliament, and to assist the committee in meeting the reporting deadline set by the Senate.  The committee understands that the exposure draft is not expected to be amended prior to its introduction to Parliament.

A copy of the exposure draft and accompanying explanatory memorandum can be accessed on the right of this page.

Submissions for this inquiry should be addressed to this committee in the usual way. The deadline for submissions to the inquiry is 16 February 2018.
