Inquiry into Biosecurity Bill 2012 and Inspector-General of Biosecurity Bill 2012
INTERIM REPORT
Dear Mr President
The Biosecurity Bill 2012 and Inspector-General of Biosecurity Bill 2012 were referred to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee by the Senate on 28 November 2012, for reporting on 27 February 2013.
This inquiry has generated significant interest from stakeholders across the country and from a broad range of sectorial interests. The Committee has received 34 submissions, has held one public hearing in Canberra, and has plans to hold further public hearings in several states.
The Committee wishes to extend this reporting date to 24 June 2013. This would allow it to fully consider the size and scope of the bills, to engage stakeholders effectively, to consider all the evidence available, and conclude its deliberations.
Yours sincerely
Senator Glenn Sterle
Chair
