Senator the Hon John Hogg
President of the Senate
Parliament House
CANBERRA ACT 2600

Dear Mr President

INQUIRY INTO THE PROVISIONS OF THE AIRPORTS AMENDMENT BILL 2010

Pursuant to Senate standing order 38(7), I present to you the report of the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee inquiry into the provisions of the Airports Amendment Bill 2010.

The Bill was introduced into the House of Representatives on 24 June 2010 and the Senate referred the Bill to the committee for inquiry on the same date for report by 24 August 2010.

The Bill gives effect to legislative reforms announced in the National Aviation Policy White Paper, particularly in relation to the planning regulatory framework and the requirements for airport master plans and major development plans.

Notice of the inquiry was posted on the committee's website and advertised in the Australian on 14 July 2010 and 30 July 2010. The committee also requested submissions from a number of stakeholder departments, agencies and organisations. The committee received 28 submissions which are attached for the information of the Senate.

The intervening federal election prevented the committee from further examining the Bill. If the Bill is reintroduced in the new parliament, the Senate may again refer it to the committee for inquiry.

Yours sincerely

Senator Glenn Sterle
Chair
