On 4 August 2022, the Senate referred an inquiry into Oil and gas exploration and production in the Beetaloo Basin to the Senate Environment and Communications References Committee for inquiry and report by 14 February 2023.

On 9 February 2023, the committee was granted an extension of time for the report to table by 21 March 2023. On that date, the committee requested a further extension of time to table the report by 29 March 2023. On 28 March 2023, the committee was granted another extension of time to table the report by 13 April 2023.

The committee requests a further extension of time for the report to table by 19 April 2023, to allow the committee more time to consider the evidence received and to conclude its deliberations.
