On 14 June 2017 the Senate referred the following matter to the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee for inquiry and report by 4 December 2017:

Implications of climate change for Australia’s national security.

Submissions to this inquiry close on 4 August 2017.

On 13 November 2017 the Senate agreed to extend the reporting date to 22 March 2018.

On 20 March 2018 the Senate agreed to extend the reporting date to 20 April 2018.

On 17 April 2018 the Senate agreed to extend the reporting date to 17 May 2018.
