The Senate Economics Legislation Committee is inquiring into the provisions of the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment Bill 2006. The reporting date is
Wednesday, 16 August 2006.
This bill proposes to amend several intellectual property Acts. If passed, it will implement part of the government’s response to two reports into the intellectual property system, and to broaden the patent ‘springboarding’ scheme for generic pharmaceuticals. It will also provide the Registrar of Trade Marks with the power to revoke trade marks which have been registered as a result of administrative errors or oversights, and simplify the process for making documents relating to trade marks more readily available to the public. It will also make a number of other minor amendments.
