Senate committees conduct inquires to examine matters in detail and report back to the Senate. As committee proceedings are flexible, they are able to gather information from a range of sources including receiving submissions, holding hearings and conducting visits around Australia.
Committees provide an opportunity for organisations and individuals to participate in policy making and to have their views placed on the public record and considered as part of the decision-making process.
