About this inquiry

The purpose of this bill is to amend the ABC's Charter in relation to the delivery of services to rural and regional Australia in each State and Territory, and it seeks to define the Corporation's mandate for its public service function for journalism in rural and regional Australia.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation Amendment (Rural and Regional Advocacy) Bill 2015

On 13 September 2016, the bill was restored to the Senate Notice Paper and referred to the committee on 15 September 2016 for inquiry and report by 30 November 2016. Information about the re-adopted inquiry is available here.


On 3 December 2015 the Senate referred the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Amendment (Rural and Regional Advocacy) Bill 2015 for inquiry and report.

The reporting date is 20 June 2016.
