About this inquiry

The bills would amend the broadband regulatory framework by:

  • establishing the Regional Broadband Scheme (RBS) to provide for the funding of NBN Co satellite and fixed wireless services for regional areas;
  • creating statutory infrastructure provider (SIP) obligations; and
  • amending the carrier separation rules.

Telecommunications Legislation Amendment (Competition and Consumer) Bill 2017 and Telecommunications (Regional and Broadband Scheme) Charge Bill 2017

On 22 June 2017, the Senate referred the Telecommunications Legislation Amendment (Competition and Consumer) Bill 2017 and the Telecommunications (Regional and Broadband Scheme) Charge Bill 2017  to the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 8 August 2017.

The closing date for submission is 14 July 2017.
