On 30 November 2016, the Senate referred an inquiry into the efficacy and regulation of shark mitigation and deterrent measures to the Senate Environment and Communications References Committee for inquiry and report by 30 June 2017.
Submissions close on 3 March 2017.
On 19 June 2017 the Senate granted an extension of time to report until 29 November 2017.
