On 5 September 2022, the Senate referred the inquiry into climate-related marine invasive species to the Senate Environment and Communications References Committee for inquiry and report by 1 March 2023.

The committee requests a further extension of time to report until 31 July 2023 to allow it to consider the evidence received and to conclude its deliberations.
