CANBERRA ACT 2600
Dear Mr President
INQUIRY INTO THE AUSTRALIAN HORSE INDUSTRY AND AN EMERGENCY ANIMAL DISEASE RESPONSE AGREEMENT
Pursuant to Senate standing order 38(7), I present to you the report of the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee inquiry into the Australian horse industry and an emergency animal disease response agreement.
The Senate referred the matter to the committee for inquiry on 17 June 2010 for report by 30 August 2010.
Notice of the inquiry was posted on the committee's website and advertised in the Australian on 30 June 2010, 14 July 2010 and 30 July 2010. The committee also advertised the inquiry in the rural press on 1 July 2010. The committee also requested submissions from a number of stakeholder agencies and organisations. The committee received 13 submissions which are attached for the information of the Senate.
The intervening federal election prevented the committee from completing its examination of this matter. The matter may be re-referred to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee in the new parliament.
Yours sincerely
Senator Fiona Nash
Chair
