Terms of Reference
Referred 29 November 2005 for inquiry and the reporting date has now been
extended to 6 February 2007
Australia’s
future oil supply and alternative transport fuels, with particular reference to:
- projections of oil production and demand in Australia and globally and the
implications for availability and pricing of transport fuels in Australia;
- potential of new sources of oil and alternative transport fuels to meet a
significant share of Australia’s fuel demands, taking into
account technological developments and environmental and economic costs;
- flow-on
economic and social impacts in Australia from continuing rises in the
price of transport fuel and potential reductions in oil supply; and
- options
for reducing Australia’s transport fuel demands.

The Committee prefers to receive submissions electronically as

The closing date for receipt of submissions is 24 February
2006.
Submissions become Committee documents and are made public
only after a decision by the Committee. Persons making submissions must
not release them without the approval of the Committee. Submissions are
covered by parliamentary privilege but the unauthorised release of them is
not.
Following consideration of submissions, the Committee will
hold public hearings. The Committee will consider all submissions and may
invite individuals and organisations to give evidence at the public
hearings.
