In accordance with section 18(b) of the National Emergency Declaration Act 2020, the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee is reviewing the operation of the Act and will report to the Senate by 6 May 2026. The Act provides a legislative framework for the declaration of a national emergency by the Governor-General on the advice of the Prime Minister. The Governor-General has declared one national emergency under the provisions of the Act, the National Emergency (2022 New South Wales Floods) Declaration 2022. The closing date for submissions is 27 February 2026.
