On 6 November 2025, the Senate referred the Copyright Amendment Bill 2025 to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by Friday, 19 December 2025.

The Bill would amend the Copyright Act 1968 to introduce an Australian orphan works scheme, clarify the scope of provisions relating to the performance and communication of works or other subject matter in the course of educational instruction, and make technical amendments.
