Inquiry into the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage
Protection Amendment Bill 2005
Information about the Inquiry
The Senate has referred the provisions of this bill
to the Committee for inquiry and report by 8 February 2005.
The purposes of the bill are:(1) to amend the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act 1984 so that export of objects
will not be prevented if a certificate covering them is in force under the
Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act 1986, and (2) to amend
Commonwealth legislation so that Victoria can legislate directly regarding
Victorian Aboriginal cultural heritage.

interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form sent
by email to
ecita.sen@aph.gov.au. The email must include full postal address and
contact details.
