Inquiry into the Australian Technical Colleges (Flexibility in
Achieving Australia's Skills Needs) Bill 2005
This bill, referred to the committee on 15 June 2005, implements an
election commitment to establish technical colleges for year 11 and 12
students in 24 regions. An appropriation of $343.6 million is provided for
over five years. The bill provides that the colleges will establish links
with local industry, and have local community and business representatives
on their governing councils. Non-government bodies and schools, as well as
government schools, are eligible to form consortiums for the purpose of
tendering for the establishment of colleges in each region.
The committee invites submissions from interested parties and are due
by 22 July 2005. The report is listed to be tabled on 9 August
2005.
