Information about the Inquiry
The Senate has referred
the provisions of the Social Security
Legislation Amendment (2007 Budget Measures for Students) Bill 2007
to the Senate Standing Committee on Employment,
Workplace Relations and Education for report by 30 July 2007.
This bill gives effect to measures announced in
the 2007-08 Budget. This includes extending the eligibility for Youth
Allowance and Austudy to certain masters by course-work degree students.
The bill also updates aspects of the administration of ABSTUDY and the
Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) schemes and extends access to the
crisis payment under the ABSTUDY Scheme. Finally, the bill allows for
rent assistance to be paid to students aged 25 years and over who receive
Austudy.
