On 14 March 2012 the Senate referred the following matter to the Senate Economics References Committee for inquiry and report:
An examination of recent developments in the banking sector arising out of the impact of the global financial crisis and subsequent events.

Submissions should be received by 31 May 2012. The initial reporting date was 31 October 2012.
On 30 October 2012, the Senate granted an extension to the reporting date until 28 November 2012
The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online
