The Senate has referred to the Committee
the following matter for inquiry and report by 27 October 2006:

Legislative responses to
recommendations of the reports of the Legislation Review Committee on the
Prohibition of Human Cloning
Act 2002 and the
Research Involving Human
Embryos Act 2002 (the
Lockhart review).

That in undertaking this
inquiry the committee may consider any relevant bill or draft bill based
on the Lockhart review introduced or tabled in the Senate or presented to
the President by a Senator when the Senate is not sitting.

The Committee invites
you to provide a written submission addressing issues that may be of
relevance to you. The submission should be lodged by 4 October 2006. The
Committee prefers to receive submissions electronically as an attached
document – email: community.affairs.sen@aph.gov.au – otherwise by fax (02 6277
5829).
Submissions become
Committee documents and are made public only after a decision by the
Committee. Publication of submissions includes loading them onto the
internet and their being available to other interested parties including
the media. Persons making submissions must not release them without the
approval of the Committee. Submissions are covered by parliamentary
privilege but the unauthorised release of them is not protected.

The Committee intends
to hold public hearings in Canberra on 20 October, Sydney on 23 October
and in Melbourne on 24 October 2006.
