On 18 June 2015, the Senate referred the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Bill 2015 and the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Bill 2015 to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report.

On 10 August 2015, the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 18 August 2015.
