Information about the Inquiry

On 11 September 2012 the Senate referred the following matter to the Senate Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Committees for inquiry and report.

Teaching and learning - maximising our investment in Australian schools, with particular reference to:

(a) the effectiveness of current classroom practices in assisting children to realise their potential in Australian schools;
(b) the structure and governance of school administration  - local and central -  and its impact on teaching and learning;
(c) the influence of family members in supporting the rights of children to receive a quality education;
(d) the adequacy of tools available for teachers to create and maintain an optimal learning environment;
(e) factors influencing the selection, training, professional development, career progression and retention of teachers in the Australian education system; and
(f) other related matters.


The committee has resolved that, where a submitter requests that their name or that of a school, students or teachers, not be published, it will accede to that request. Please make any such request clear in your submission.



Submissions should be received by 30 January 2013. The Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 14 May 2013.

The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to eewr.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
