The Joint Standing Committee on Implementation of the National Redress Scheme will hold a public hearing in Canberra on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, for its inquiry into the continuing operation of the Scheme. Committee Chair, Ms Jodie Belyea MP, said the Committee is grateful for the contributions made in support of the inquiry to date. ‘The Committee has received a substantial number of submissions in support of our current inquiry and heard evidence from a range of stakeholders’, Ms Belyea noted. ‘On Wednesday, the Committee will hear from Redress Support Services, lived experience advisers, and participating institutions. This evidence will help the Committee understand issues from a range of perspectives as the Scheme enters its final operational stage.’ The Committee will continue to hear evidence from a wide range of stakeholders and individuals as it examines issues related to the effective, safe and equitable management of the Scheme. The Joint Standing Committee on Implementation of the National Redress Scheme will hold a public hearing in Canberra on Friday, 13 March 2026, for its inquiry into the continuing operation of the Scheme. Committee Chair, Ms Jodie Belyea MP, said the Committee is grateful for the contributions made in support of the inquiry to date. ‘The National Redress Scheme plays a central role in Australia’s response to institutional child sexual abuse. It is an important program for a significant number of people. The Committee has received a substantial number of submissions in support of our current inquiry, and public hearings over the coming months will allow us to explore some of the issues raised in these contributions.’ Ms Belyea said the hearing will enable the Committee to gather evidence from a range of key stakeholders. ‘The Committee will hear from the Department of Social Services, as well as Redress Support Services and legal stakeholders. The Joint Standing Committee on Implementation of the National Redress Scheme has launched an inquiry into the continuing operation of the Scheme and invites submissions to guide its findings. With the Scheme scheduled to conclude on 30 June 2028, the inquiry will primarily examine the outstanding case management load, the availability and effectiveness of support services for applicants, and the transition arrangements as the Scheme approaches its end. The Committee will also assess whether the Scheme is achieving its intended objectives and meeting the expectations of survivors and the broader community. Committee Chair, Ms Jodie Belyea MP, said ‘We know the Scheme matters to many people. As we move closer to its scheduled conclusion, the Committee is focused on assessing its effectiveness and exploring what a thoughtful, well-managed transition looks like’. ‘This inquiry is an opportunity to explore how the Scheme can better support survivors now and into the future.’ The Committee welcomes submissions in response to the inquiry terms of reference by Friday, 6 February 2026. Submissions are encouraged from a wide range of stakeholders, including government, legal and support bodies, researchers, and survivors.
