On 9 August 2023, following a referral from Senator the Hon Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism the Joint Standing Committee on Trade and Investment Growth resolved to inquire into and report on the Australian Government's approach to negotiating trade and investment agreements.

The Committee invited submissions addressing the terms of reference by 22 September 2023.

The Committee published its interim report for the inquiry titled Interim report: Inquiry into the Australian Government's approach to negotiating trade and investment agreements on 6 February 2024.  The Committee's inquiry is ongoing.
