  • Intelligence and Security Committee supports amendments to help criminal investigations

    The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) today tabled its report on the Review of the Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 (TOLA Bill), recommending that the Bill pass unamended.

    About this inquiry

    On 27 August 2025, the Minister for Home Affairs referred the Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 to the Committee for review and report. The Bill proposes to amend the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979, Surveillance Devices Act 2004 and Crimes Act 1914 to ensure key provisions operate as intended, and to support the proper administration of government, law enforcement, national security and criminal justice processes.
