Statute Law Revision Bill 2013

Introduced into the House of Representatives on 20 March 2013

Portfolio: Attorney-General

Overview

1.108         This bill seeks to make a number of minor and technical amendments to a large number of Acts and legislative instruments. This is to correct technical errors that have occurred as a result of drafting and clerical mistakes, to repeal spent and obsolete provisions, modernise languages and make amendments as a consequence of revisions to the Acts Interpretation Act 1901 and the introduction of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.

Compatibility with human rights

1.109         The bill is accompanied by a self-contained statement of compatibility which states:

The amendments make technical corrections and technical improvements to legislation. They also repeal obsolete provisions and Acts. The amendments improve the ease of administration of legislation and reduce the regulatory burden. They do not engage any human rights issues.

1.110        The committee considers that the bill does not appear to give rise to human rights concerns.
