Inquiry into Local Government Funding and Fiscal Sustainability

The Committee adopted an inquiry into local government funding and fiscal sustainability on 6 November 2025, following a referral from the Minister for Emergency Management; Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, the Hon Kristy McBain MP.

The Committee thanks everyone who provided a submission to the inquiry or participated in a public hearing in the previous Parliament's inquiry into local government sustainability. All the information received as part of that inquiry in the previous Parliament will be reconsidered. Therefore there is no requirement to provide another submission if you have already done so. The Committee would however welcome updated or additional information addressing the new terms of reference.

The Committee is seeking written submissions by Tuesday, 3 February 2026 from organisations and individuals that provide recommendations relating to any or all of the inquiry’s terms of reference.

If you are experiencing problems uploading your submission via the online portal, please email your submission to the secretariat at rdit.reps@aph.gov.au.
