On 28 August 2025 the Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon Mark Butler MP, re-referred the inquiry into the health impacts of alcohol and other drugs in Australia to the House Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability.
The Committee accepted the Minister's request to undertake a health-focused review of alcohol and other drugs policy, treatment services, community programs, and workforce, to determine whether the current settings appropriately support the prevention, reduction and recovery of alcohol and other drugs-related health harms on individuals, families and communities.
The Committee’s Issues paper relating to the health impacts of alcohol and other drugs in Australia identified a number of additional areas of focus for the Committee’s inquiry.
On 30 October 2025 the Committee agreed to extend the submission deadline from 31 October 2025. The closing date for submissions is now Friday, 28 November 2025.
The Committee would be grateful to receive written submissions addressing the areas of focus for the inquiry as well as the . Further information about making a submission to a parliamentary committee is available .
The Committee thanks everyone who provided a submission to the inquiry or participated in a public hearing in the previous Parliament. All the information received as part of the inquiry in the previous Parliament will be reconsidered. Therefore there is no requirement to provide another submission if you have already done so.
