Inquiry into Water Policy Initiatives

Information about the Inquiry

Referred 14 September 2005 and to report by 30 November, 2006

Terms of Reference

The impact on rural water usage of recent water policy initiatives and the possible role for Commonwealth agencies, with particular reference to: 

  1. the development of water property titles;
  2. methods of protection for rivers and aquifers;
  3. farming innovation;
  4. monitoring drought and predicting farm water demand; and
  5. the implications for agriculture of predicted changes in patterns of precipitation and temperature.

The closing date for receipt of submissions is 30 November 2005.

Submissions become Committee documents and are made public only after a decision by the Committee. Persons making submissions must not release them without the approval of the Committee. Submissions are covered by parliamentary privilege but the unauthorised release of them is not.

Following consideration of submissions, the Committee will hold public hearings. The Committee will consider all submissions and may invite individuals and organisations to give evidence at the public hearings.
