National Animal Welfare Bill 2005

Information about the Inquiry

On 22 June 2005, the Senate referred the provisions of the above bill to the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by the last sitting date in June 2006.. The  Committee will consider whether a more consistent and enforceable national framework for animal welfare issues is required and the adequacy of the legislation.

The Committee invites written submissions on the Bill.  If you would like to make a submission or want further information about the inquiry phone (02) 6277 3511. If you made a submission into the Committee's 2004 inquiry you can submit an updated submission or let the Committee know that you want your submission considered as part of this inquiry.

The closing date for receipt of submissions has been extended to 30 November 2005.

Submissions become Committee documents and are made public only after a decision by the Committee. Persons making submissions must not release them without the approval of the Committee. Submissions are covered by parliamentary privilege but the unauthorised release of them is not.

Following consideration of submissions, the Committee will hold public hearings. The Committee will consider all submissions and may invite individuals and organisations to give evidence at the public hearings.
