Building and Construction Industry Improvement Bill
2005 and Building and Construction Industry Improvement (Consequential and
Transitional) Bill 2005
On 16 March 2005, the Senate referred to this committee an
inquiry into the Building and Construction Industry Improvement Bill 2005,
together with an associated bill.
This bill, modified from the 2003 bill introduced into the previous
parliament, provides for comprehensive change to workplace relations
regulation in the industry. It will make industrial action illegal, within
constitutional limits (apart from protected action) and allow builders and
other affected participants to recover damages resulting from industrial action.
The committee is due to report on 10 May. Submissions are due on 12
April.
There are no formal terms of reference for bills inquiries. Submitters
should send in a written statement explaining their interests in the bill. As the committee expects to report in May 2005, submissions
will be required by 12 April 2005.
Inquiries from hearing and speech impaired people should be directed to the Parliament House TTY number (02) 6277 7799. Adobe also provides tools for the blind and visually impaired to access PDF documents. These tools are available at: http://access.adobe.com/. If you require any special arrangements in order to enable you to participate in a committee inquiry, please contact the committee secretary.
