Federal Circuit Court of Australia Legislation Amendment Bill 2012

1.2        This bill amends the Federal Magistrates Act 1999 and other legislation to rename the Federal Magistrates Court as the ‘Federal Circuit Court of Australia’, and to change the title of Chief Federal Magistrate to ‘Chief Judge’ and Federal Magistrates to ‘Judge’.

1.3        The bill does not alter the jurisdiction or the status of the Federal Magistrates Court and preserves existing arrangements in relation to personnel of the Federal Magistrates Court.

1.4        The statement of compatibility states that the bill does not engage human rights.

1.5        The committee considers that the bill does not appear to raise any human rights concerns and the statement of compatibility is adequate.
