Inquiry into strengthening Australia’s relationships with countries in the Pacific region

On Tuesday, 11 February 2020, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, asked the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade - Foreign Affairs and Aid Sub-Committee to inquire into strengthening Australia’s relationships with countries in the Pacific region.

The Sub-Committee recognises that the relationships between Australia and the Pacific region will be changing in response to the COVD19 pandemic. The Sub-committee will continue its inquiry, but will seek to collect evidence throughout 2020 as the situation progresses, and will report in 2021. The extension date for written submissions has been extended to 30 June 2020 and public hearings will commence in June/July and continue throughout the second half of the year.

The Committee invites submissions addressing any or all of the terms of reference for the inquiry by Tuesday, 30 June 2020.
