Inquiry into strengthening Australia’s relationships with countries in the Pacific region

On Tuesday, 11 February 2020, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, asked the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade - Foreign Affairs and Aid Sub-Committee to inquire into strengthening Australia’s relationships with countries in the Pacific region.

The Sub-Committee recognises that the relationships between Australia and the Pacific region will be changing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sub-Committee will continue its inquiry, and will seek to collect evidence throughout 2020 as the situation progresses, and will report in 2021. Public hearings commenced in June and will continue throughout the second half of the year.

The Committee will receive submissions and supplementary submissions addressing any, or all of the inquiry terms of reference during this time.
