Applicants should download the selection criteria and duty statement and frame applications accordingly. Selection documentation may also be obtained by telephoning (02) 6277 4526 (24 hour answering machine).

Ensure that you lodge your application by the closing date. If you cannot meet the deadline for applications, you should contact the contact officer, who may agree to accept a late application. Please note it is not departmental practice to send a written acknowledgment of receipt of applications.

Temporary Register

Non-Ongoing Employment Register

The Department has an employment register that is used to offer non-ongoing employment from time to time. Applications are now being received from interested persons who wish to be placed on the employment register for the following levels:

The duration of vacancies may range from a week to several months. Vacancies that are available for a period of longer than 12 months are advertised and a merit selection process is conducted.  It is not possible to indicate when these vacancies may arise.

The employment register will be reviewed on a regular basis. Applications will remain active until 31 December at which time applicants will be removed from the register. If you are still available and wish to be considered for future employment opportunities, you are required to re-register your interest by submitting an updated application. If at any time, details included on your application change, it would be appreciated if an updated version could be forwarded to recruitment. Applicants will only be contacted if a vacancy arises suiting their skills and experience.

Graduate Program

Parliament of Australia Graduate Program 2022

The Department of the House of Representatives offers three month placements to graduates who have been accepted into existing Australian Government department and agency graduate programs. The program is designed to give graduates exposure to the parliamentary departments’ work in supporting the Parliament. The skills and knowledge graduates obtain through the program may assist in building the foundation for career progression and professional development. 

Applications for the 2022 Graduate Program will open in October 2021.
