The Department of the Senate provides the Senate, its committees, the President of the Senate and senators with a broad range of advisory and support services related to the exercise of the legislative power of the Commonwealth. The work of the Department of the Senate is determined almost entirely by the Senate and its committees.

The Department of the Senate is committed to the principles of workplace equity and diversity and selection for vacancies is made on merit.

Selection for employment opportunities would normally be based on applications, referee reports, skills tests and interviews.

Parliament of Australia Graduate Program

The Department of the Senate generally offers six month placements to graduates who have been accepted into existing Australian Government department and agency graduate programs.
