On 6 February 2024, the Senate referred an inquiry into the impact and mitigation of aircraft noise to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee for inquiry and report by 8 October 2024.

On 15 August 2024, the Senate granted an extension of time to report until 31 October 2024.

The committee continues to conduct its inquiry and requests an extension of time to report until 20 November 2024 to allow it to consider the evidence received and to conclude its deliberations.
