Scrutiny reports
Examination of legislation in accordance with the Human Rights (Parliamentary Scrutiny) Act 2011.
The scrutiny reports provide the committee's initial examination of bills introduced into Parliament, and legislative instruments registered, since its last report, as well as its concluded views of legislation previously commented on.
The committee may make a minor comment on legislation, provide its assessment on an advice only basis (not requiring a response), or may seek a response from the proponent of the legislation and then provide a concluding view in a subsequent scrutiny report.
Scrutiny reports from Report 3 of 2022 include a ‘Report Snapshot’, which provides an overview of the numbers of bills and legislative instruments considered in the report and a summary of each entry, as well as any minor comments on legislation.
The committee usually reports during each joint sitting week. Where there is a large break in the sitting calendar the committee occasionally reports outside of the sittings to ensure the timeliness of its assessments.
