Compatibility with human rights

1.395         The bill is accompanied by a self-contained statement of compatibility which is part of the explanatory memorandum. It identifies the rights engaged by the bill as the right to enjoy and benefit from culture and the right to self-determination.[1]

1.396        The committee notes that the bill was referred on 29 November 2012 to two other committees, the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee and the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs and therefore the committee intends to defer its examination of this bill.
