Interim Report
The Joint Select Committee met on 6 October 2011 and agreed to present to the Parliament this Interim Report on its inquiry into Australia's immigration detention network.
The committee has received over 3,500 submissions, and held hearings and site visits in Christmas Island, Derby, Darwin and Sydney. However, the committee takes the view that it requires more time to adequately discharge its reference and present a properly considered report on this very important matter of public policy. The committee requests its reporting date be extended to 30 March 2012.
