Information for departments and agencies
Senate standing order 166 provides for the presentation (or tabling) of documents when the Senate is not sitting [2024_StandingOrders]. A document received under this process is deemed to have been presented to the Senate and is then authorised for publication.
For guidance on tabling documents out of sitting, departments should refer to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet's tabling guidelines [Tabling guidelines | PM&C].
Legislative instruments cannot be presented when the Senate is not sitting. Any instruments delivered to the Table Office for tabling when the Senate is not sitting will be tabled on the next available sitting day.
