to: allow states and territories to administer exploration and/or mining on Commonwealth land through regulations that incorporate or adopt state/territory mining legislation; provide for a penalty regime for breaches of the regulations; enable the minister to make offers of compensation to interest holders without a claim being made; and remove the requirement for commercial acquisitions in the market of an interest in land to be tabled in Parliament. Also repeals the Lands Acquisition (Defence) Act 1968

Bills and committees
The House of Representatives Selection Committee and the Senate Selection of Bills Committee routinely consider whether bills should be referred to committees for inquiry and report. The House Committee reports its determinations to the chamber, while the Senate Committee makes recommendations which the Senate may then adopt. Bills may also be referred to committees by either chamber or by the relevant minister to House and joint committees.
