to: allow for township leases to be for a period of between 40 and 99 years and provide for rights of renewal; expand the functions of the Executive Director of Township Leasing; allow for the grant of 13 areas of Aboriginal land which will be operated as national parks; and make minor amendments; and Northern Territory National Emergency Response Act 2007
to: provide processes for payments to landholders for the acquisition of five-year leases; and make minor and technical amendments.

to: provide that chemicals in products previously regulated by other Commonwealth agencies can be transferred to the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme; enable formal notification and assessment arrangements for ultra-violet filters in secondary sunscreen products; and enable summary assessment reports to be published online.

Introduced with the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Administration) Amendment Bill 2004, the bill amends the
Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Act 1989
to give effect to Australia’s obligations under the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade. Also contains an application provision.

Bills and committees
The House of Representatives Selection Committee and the Senate Selection of Bills Committee routinely consider whether bills should be referred to committees for inquiry and report. The House Committee reports its determinations to the chamber, while the Senate Committee makes recommendations which the Senate may then adopt. Bills may also be referred to committees by either chamber or by the relevant minister to House and joint committees.
