    to: enable the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) to makes rules and directions relating to the provision of finance by non-authorised deposit-taking institution lenders which APRA has identified may materially contribute to risks of instability in the Australian financial system; remove restrictions on the use of the term ‘bank’; and insert an objects provision;
    National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009
    to: require that the suitability of a credit card contract is assessed on the consumer’s ability to repay the credit limit within a certain period; prohibit providers from making unsolicited credit limit offers in relation to credit card contracts and from retrospectively charging interest on credit card balances; and enable consumers to reduce credit card limits and terminate credit card contracts, including by online means; and

    Establishes a National Integrity Commission as an independent statutory agency which will consist of the National Integrity Commissioner, the Law Enforcement Integrity Commissioner and the Independent Parliamentary Advisor and provide for: the investigation and prevention of misconduct and corruption in all Commonwealth departments and agencies, and federal parliamentarians and their staff; the investigation and prevention of corruption in the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Crime Commission; and independent advice to ministers and parliamentarians on conduct, ethics and matters of propriety.     to: enable the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) to manage errors in an application at the preliminary assessment stage, grant part of a variation application, and vary a label approval where that approval is suspended; enable the APVMA and Food Standards Australia New Zealand to agree on appropriate timeframes for notifications about variations to the Maximum Residue Limits Standard; and clarify that the ‘expiry date’ is the date after which a chemical product must not be used; and

Bills and committees

The House of Representatives Selection Committee and the Senate Selection of Bills Committee routinely consider whether bills should be referred to committees for inquiry and report. The House Committee reports its determinations to the chamber, while the Senate Committee makes recommendations which the Senate may then adopt. Bills may also be referred to committees by either chamber or by the relevant minister to House and joint committees.
