to extend time frames in relation to: past period lump sum claims for family tax benefit (FTB) and child care benefit; payment of top-ups of FTB as a result of income reconciliation; and exchange, use and destruction of tax file number data for income reconciliation purposes; and Income Tax Assessment Act 1997
to make consequential amendments to allow tax advisers’ fees for FTB lump sums claims that relate to the 2001-02 income year to be tax deductible. Also contains application provisions.

to make amendments contingent on the commencement of the proposed Family and Community Services Legislation Amendment (Australians Working Together and Other 2001 Budget Measures) Act 2002
to ensure that activity test requirements are applied consistently to both special beneficiaries and newstart allowees; and A New Tax System (Family Assistance) (Consequential and Related Measures) Act (No. 2) 1999
and Family and Community Services Legislation Amendment (1999 Budget and Other Measures) Act 1999
to correct cross-references as a result of the enactment of the Youth Allowance Consolidation Act 2000

to extend the sunset clause for foreign banks obtaining a banking authority in order to be eligible for concessional tax treatment when transferring assets and liabilities, to 30 June 2003; and to extend the deadline to effect any subsequent transfer of assets and liabilities from 30 June 2004 to 30 June 2006.

Bills and committees
The House of Representatives Selection Committee and the Senate Selection of Bills Committee routinely consider whether bills should be referred to committees for inquiry and report. The House Committee reports its determinations to the chamber, while the Senate Committee makes recommendations which the Senate may then adopt. Bills may also be referred to committees by either chamber or by the relevant minister to House and joint committees.
