      The reference for this inquiry lapsed when the Committee ceased to 
        exist at the dissolution of the House of Representatives on 8 October 
        2001.

Scope
       On 7 June 2001 the House of Representative Standing Committee on Economics, 
        Finance and Public Administration resolved to review the Auditor 
        General's Audit Report No. 42 2000-2001: Bank Prudential Supervision  (PDF format 337kb) 
        . The Committee will investigate the arrangements associated 
        with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority's (APRA) supervision 
        of banks including, but not limited to APRA's: 
      
 
      
        - levy arrangements; 
        
 - resourcing; 
        
 - risk-based supervisory methodology; and 
        
 - compliance with international standards. 
      
 
       The Committee will pursue its investigation under House 
        Standing Order 324b which states that the reports of the Auditor General 
        stand referred to the relevant committee for any inquiry the committee 
        may wish to make. 
      
 This inquiry was in addition to the Committee's standing 
        reference to review and report on APRA's supervision and prudential 
        regulation of those areas of the financial sector for which it has responsibility, 
        referred to the Committee by the Minister for Financial Services and Regulation 
        on 29 March 1999; and any inquiry by the Committee into APRA relating 
        to its annual report under House 
        Standing Order 324b.
