Under the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives, standing committees are appointed for the life of the Parliament. A resolution of appointment was passed by the House of Representatives on 29 September 2010 establishing the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs for the 43rd Parliament.
